Award a job — what flips when you win

In STrOp's vocabulary, a job is a project someone has agreed to pay for — and award is the moment that becomes true. One button records the agreement and moves the project from the pursuit side of the house to execution. It's deliberately a small form: the award takes thirty seconds, and the setup it unlocks is its own checklist.

Award it

  1. Move the pursuit's card to Awarded on the pipeline board when the good call comes. The card grows an Award Job → button. (The same Award Job button also sits in the project header the whole time it's a pursuit.)
  2. The form asks for three things:
    • Contract Value — pre-filled from your bid value; enter what was actually agreed, which is not always what you proposed.
    • Contract Date — when the agreement is (or will be) executed.
    • NTP Date — notice to proceed; this becomes the project's start date.
  3. Award Job. Done — the pursuit is now a job in execution, starting in preconstruction, and it leaves the pursuit lanes for stage 5 (Setup / SOV).

What flipped underneath

  • The project's contract record now exists, holding the value and dates and linked to the estimate you won on — the baseline later change orders move from.
  • The project's status is execution / preconstruction; its start date is the NTP date.
  • Bidding-phase RFIs carry forward so open questions don't die with the win.

What deliberately did not happen

  • No job number was assigned. Numbering is your org's convention, so it's typed by hand — awarding from the project header takes you straight to the edit page to fill in the job number, contract type, and dates. Do it while the award is fresh.
  • No schedule of values was built. The SOV is its own act on the project's SOV tab — import the estimate's structure as the starting point, then shape it into the billing breakdown the GC will approve. The award recorded the what; the SOV is the how you'll bill it.

Lost instead? Close Lost sits next to Award Job — close it with the reason. Honest losses are what make your win rate a number instead of a mood.

Common mistakes

  • Awarding at the letter of intent with nothing in hand. The award flips your whole workspace posture to execution. If the deal can still evaporate, leave it in Awarded on the board and press the button when it's real.
  • Contract value = bid value, unexamined. Scope moved in buyout more often than not. The value you enter here seeds job cost — enter the agreed number.
  • Stopping after the button. Job number, contract type, SOV — the award unlocks setup, it doesn't finish it. The getting-started checklist on your sidebar tracks exactly this.
