Enter the rate sheet you submitted

The rates a job bills change orders at used to be worked out for you: pick an agreement, set a markup, and the card did the arithmetic. That is fine until you look at what actually went to the general contractor. The sheet in their hands is the sheet the job bills at, whether or not it matches your agreement, your markup, or the way you normally build a rate.

So you can now type it in. Open a project's Contract tab and enter the submitted sheet straight into the change-order labor rates card — straight time, overtime, double time, and both premium columns, for every classification on the sheet.

A few things to know:

  • Nothing recomputes it. Rates you type are stored exactly as entered. They stay put when the union agreement changes, when the markup changes, and when a formula is corrected. A job already billing never has its agreed rates rewritten underneath it.
  • You are not limited to what your agreement carries. Add any classification, even one your agreement has no rate for. The sheet that went out decides the rows, not the agreement you happen to hold today.
  • The premium columns are yours to state. Leave them blank and they show overtime minus straight time. Type them and they bill as typed, even where the sheet disagrees with its own arithmetic. When it does, the row says as stated, so you find out before a general contractor does.
  • You get a comparison, not a correction. Each row shows what your agreement and markup would have produced, with the difference beside it. That is the check that catches a job running on one sheet while a different one sits in the folder.
  • Say where it came from. A field records the document and period the rates came from. A sheet with no source cannot be reconciled against the one a general contractor is holding.

The Changes page band now reads As submitted and names the source, rather than quoting a markup that did not produce the numbers.

Edits to these rates are also recorded now, with who made them and when. Previously only a change to the contract value was.
